Walter Elias, The Person Who Has Inspired Me

These days, it’s quite hard to find a person who can really drive you to great heights. A person who can inspire you greatly. For me, I find Walter Elias as an ordinary person who has achieved his goals and that has motivated me in many aspects of my life. Walter Elias, better known as Walt Disney, was born on December 5th 1901. At the age of sixteen, Walt had dropped out of high school to join the army.

In 1919, he moved to Kansas City where he decided to start his artistic career. His brother, Roy had managed to get him a temporary job where he created advertisements for newspapers, magazines and movie theaters at a studio. At that studio, Walt met a cartoonist, Ubbe Iwerks, and they had decided to start a commercial company together after their contracts had ended.

Walt started to create a cartoon called ‘Laugh-O-Grams’ which he had studied ‘Aesop’s Fables’ as a model. Soon, Walt’s cartoon became widely popular in the Kansas City area. Through his success, Walt bought a studio and hired employees as well. Unfortunately, the studio’s profit was not enough to cover the employees’ high salaries and not long later, the studio went bankrupt.

Although Walt had gone through numerous obstacles in the past, he had finally managed to strike gold. Walt had developed a character based on a mouse which he had named Mortimer. However, the mouse was renamed Mickey as they found the name Mortimer unappealing. Walt created many shorts of Mickey Mouse and Mickey’s popularity shot sky high in the early 1930’s.

From then on, Walt had received many positive responses and since then, he had produced many movies, cartoon and shorts based on Mickey and created much more characters from famous fairy tales and so on.

Walt’s journey in life had taught me and inspired me that even though, we fail many times, we should continue on strong and we can achieve our goals. His ups and downs in life had really shown me that even someone as famous as Walt had failed in the past and it is the same with us. We fail but one day, we can gain success. This has driven me to achieve my goals such as getting good grades. As what Walt said ‘All our dreams can come true, if we had the courage to pursue in them.
